🖥️ Virtual Machine on Nuvion: Overview
A Virtual Machine (VM) on Nuvion is a virtualized server with dedicated vCPU, RAM, storage, and networking, provisioned in minutes and managed through the panel or via Terraform. VM performance is defined by its instance type (flavor), which determines the hardware family, processor generation, guaranteed clock speed, and the ratio between vCPU and memory.
Nuvion offers three flavor families — Standard, Premium Intel, and High Clock — covering everything from staging environments to mission-critical applications and workloads sensitive to per-vCPU licensing. The choice of flavor should mainly consider your application's processing and memory profile.
Instance Types (Flavors)
🟢 Nuvion Standard
Standard instances are recommended for simple environments with small to medium workloads.
- Hardware: Dell server line.
- Processor: 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable with Ice Lake SP architecture, with clock speeds starting at 2.0 GHz.
- Memory: DDR4.
- Recommended for: low- and medium-traffic web servers, blogs and forums, light-load databases, and staging environments.
🔵 Nuvion Premium Intel
Premium Intel instances are recommended for mission-critical applications that require consistent performance.
- Hardware: Dell server line.
- Processor: exclusively 4th generation Intel Xeon Platinum with Sapphire Rapids architecture, the top-tier line of the Xeon Scalable family, with clock speeds starting at 2.0 GHz.
- Memory: DDR5.
- Recommended for: SaaS software, e-commerce sites, high-traffic web servers, and heavy-load databases.
🟣 Nuvion High Clock
High Clock instances guarantee high-clock processors and are ideal for environments with high per-vCPU licensing costs or that run single-threaded processes.
- Hardware: Dell server line.
- Processor: 4th generation Xeon Gold with Sapphire Rapids architecture, with a guaranteed minimum clock of 3.6 GHz per core, extracting the maximum possible performance from each vCPU.
- Memory: DDR5.
- Recommended for: Windows instances, Microsoft SQL Server, and services that cannot work with multiple processors at the same time.
🌐 Internal network
Nuvion's infrastructure uses 100 Gbps Mellanox network cards to interconnect its servers, ensuring low latency and high throughput for traffic between VMs, storage volumes, and other platform services.
📊 Flavor comparison
| Feature | Standard | Premium Intel | Premium High Clock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Xeon Scalable | Intel Xeon Platinum | High-clock Intel Xeon |
| Memory | DDR4 | DDR5 | DDR5 |
| Clock | Starting at 2.0 GHz | Starting at 2.0 GHz | Guaranteed minimum of 3.6 GHz |
| Usage profile | Small and medium workloads, staging | Mission-critical apps and high traffic | Single-thread, per-vCPU licensing, in-memory cache |
| AWS equivalent | m5 / m5zn | c7i | r7i (with a lower clock than High Clock) |
If in doubt, start with Standard for testing and staging environments, move to Premium Intel when the application goes into critical production, and choose High Clock when per-vCPU licensing costs or per-core performance are decisive.
