Backup in Nuvion: Overview
Backups are complete and independent security copies of the data of a Virtual Machine (VM). Unlike a snapshot, the backup is designed for long-term data protection, being stored in a storage infrastructure separate from the production volumes.
At Saveincloud, the backup system allows automating infrastructure protection, ensuring that data can be recovered even in cases of critical failures or accidental deletions.
info
Backups ensure data persistence outside the VM runtime environment, offering an extra layer of security against data corruption or hardware failures.
Difference between Snapshot and Backup
Although both capture the machine state, their purposes are distinct:
| Characteristic | Snapshot | Backup |
|---|---|---|
| Location | On the same storage as the volume | Independent backup storage |
| Main Use | Quick tests and updates | Disaster recovery and history |
| Dependency | Depends on the parent volume | Fully independent |
warning
Snapshots do not replace backups. For lasting protection and compliance, always use Backup Plans.
